TAdvTwitter - Verfy Credentials

I have some (but not all) computers that run XP that produce this error message when I run the Twitter Demo program:

Cannot open URL https://api.twitter.com/1.1/account/verify_credentials.json.

Any clues as to what setting in XP could cause this?

All the computers are on the same network

Hi,

Is there a difference in the version of Internet Explorer that is installed on these XP machines?
Does the issue also occur on machines that are not running on XP?

At the moment it only seems to be a problem on the XP computers. Vista. Windows 7 & 8 are all OK.

The two XP computers that work have Internet Explorer version 8

The three that don't work have IE versions 6, 7 & 8.

So we do have an XP computer running IE8 that does not work. So the IE version number is not necessarily the problem.

Are there any settings in Internet Explorer, or anywhere else, that you know of that could cause this?

When you directly try to open the URL https://api.twitter.com/1.1/account/verify_credentials.json in machines with problems, does this work?

I can't do that even on a good machine.

Two suggestions you can try to avoid this issue:

- If you are using a proxy server: please make sure your proxy settings are configured correctly in Internet Explorer.

- If working machines have a newer version of C:\Windows\System32\wininet.dll:
Copy the newer version and place the dll in the same folder as where the exe of your application is located.

The second option is worth a try. I'll check it out when I next get access to the XP computers.

Unfortunately, the wininet.dll test did not solve the problem.

If you think of anything else I'll give it a try, but as this only seems to occur on old XP computers I wouldn't worry too much.

However it would be nice to know the cause just in case it is going to happen on later operating systems.
