Your last update fixed the problem I was having with DirectEdit mode with field getting wiped out but has created another issue which may be related.
If the first column of the data grid is a drop down and goTabs is enabled and you tab from the last field on a record the first field on the next record is erased if it is not empty or is set to first entry in the drop down if it is empty.
I duplicated the issue with your ADOEditing example and will send that through via email.
