I am setting the datetimepicker.date to a date on create. Everything displays fine but if the user does not put their cursor in the datebox then the date is not saved.

I have not been able to reproduce this issue.
Have you tried this scenario with previous IW versions, as IW 12.2.14.2 is currently unfortunately not supported?
If the problem persists, please provide a ready to run sample project that demonstrates the issue so I can further investigate this.
