Is it possible to put a different graphic on indiv days using the TPlannerMonthview
Ive tried a number of ways with no success

Where do you want this graphic? On the background of the day or in an event on the Planner on a day?
If on the background of a day, please use the OnDayDraw event to perform custom drawing of the graphic you want on a specific day.
If on the event, set the graphic via for example the imagelist index of the event , i.e. PlannerItem.ImageID
