How to create a release version of an app

It's unclear to me how a release version of an app can be created in VCS. By default a debug version is produced and I haven't been able to figure out how to switch to release mode.

Choose Run from View menu (Ctrl-Shift-D) and choose "without debugging".

Thanks. I actually choosed that option, but had the impression the Release folder wasn't updated. Maybe I should buy new glasses ;-)
