Can't install VCL UI Pack with Smart Setup

Hi, one member of our team is having trouble with installing the VCL UI Pack, I think this is after a fresh reinstall of the IDE. The relevant error from the log seems to be this one:

.\Win64\Release\TMSVCLUIPackPkg.vrc : error : failed to find / extract cached MinGW includes: PathAlreadyExists [C:\Users\pauld\AppData\Local\TMS Setup\Temp\p\tms.vcl.uipack_d13_win64intel_Release\TMSVCLUIPackPkg.dproj]

We've tried tms doctor but that didn't appear to help. We also tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling smart setup.

The full section from the log is below, let me know if you need the whole log file. Thx.

We managed to fix this by deleting the following folder:

C:\Users\AppData\Local\Temp\resinator

Perhaps this could be added to the smart setup build process.

Hi,
Indeed, the first time you run Resinator it downloads the Windows includes (from MinGW) into C:\Users\AppData\Local\Temp\resinator. After that, it will not redownload them again, and just keep using it.

As smartsetup builds in parallel, it could be the case that the first time you run it after installing Delphi13, two threads try to download the same Windows headers to the same C:\Users\AppData\Local\Temp\resinator folder and crash. So, because of this reason, SmartSetup does:

  1. It runs resinator once, no parallel processes, so it downloads what it needs to download. If you had already run resinator before, this will do nothing.
  2. After that step, it will then build all the other processes in parallel, and those won't try to download the headers again as they were downloaded in step 1.

I am not sure on what we could do to improve here. Removing C:\Users\AppData\Local\Temp\resinator every time you run is overkill, because we will constantly downloading the headers from MinGW.

And for most cases it wouldn't improve anything, since the current system is working reliably. This is the first report we get about issues with resinator since we implemented step 1 above (run resinator before building anything). Resinator was introduced in Rad Studio 13, and when we added initial support (without handling resinator separately) we had lots of reports of resinator crashing because 2 build processes tried to download at the same time. But by running it first, that was fixed.

My guess is that in this machine where you had the issue it wasn't really a clean delphi13 install (since that folder existed, and it shouldn't until you install delphi13 or more specifically run resinator). The folder must have got corrupt somehow, and from then it would always fail.

As said, I am not sure what is the best we can do here, but maybe we can add a check to tmsdoctor to see if resinator can run. That would have caught this issue

Ok thx, yes it looks like adding something to tms doctor would be the way to go.
